Snakes and Ecosystems: A Workshop on Wildlife Coexistence

Kakarvitta Multiple Campus (KMC) recently hosted a high-impact workshop titled “Snakes and the Ecosystem: Ensuring Secure Coexistence with Nature’s Protectors.” The event aimed to bridge the gap between human safety and wildlife conservation, specifically focusing on the vital role snakes play in our environment.

Expert Insights and Interactive Learning

The workshop featured renowned snake rescuer and conservationist Kripesh Karki, who provided students with a rare, hands-on opportunity to interact with live snakes. Key session highlights included:

  • Identification Skills: Distinguishing between venomous and non-venomous snakes.

  • Ecological Importance: Understanding how snakes maintain the balance of our local ecosystem.

  • Safety & Coexistence: Practical methods for safe relocation and human-snake conflict resolution.

Distinguished Panel & Discussions

The program was enriched by a dynamic talk show and expert commentary:

  • Bishal Tamang (Former FSU President) led an engaging talk show session, facilitating a dialogue between students and experts.

  • Deven Kharel, a prominent Wildlife Conservation Activist, shared his perspective on the broader challenges of wildlife protection in the Jhapa region.

By allowing students to see and interact with these creatures in a controlled environment, the workshop successfully replaced fear with fascination and sensitivity toward wildlife conservation.
